Creating an External Client (Connected) App

To use Salesforce as a data source in BoogieBoard, you'll need to create an External Client App in your Salesforce account. This will allow your BoogieBoard team members to utilize Salesforce as a data source.

Sandbox vs. Production

Salesforce Sandbox and Production are separate environments. You must create the External Client App in each environment you plan to connect.

Production

(https://login.salesforce.com) is required for live syncing of territories.

Sandbox

(https://test.salesforce.com) is optional but strongly recommended. Most teams use Sandbox to test exports (e.g., ETM territory objects, Account Team assignments, or custom fields) before running them in Production.

Naming Conventions

Use clear names to avoid confusion (e.g., BoogieBoard Connect (Sandbox) and BoogieBoard Connect (Prod)).

Best Practice:

  1. Refresh Sandbox first so it reflects your current Production metadata and configuration.
  2. Create the External Client App in Sandbox and connect BoogieBoard to test imports, exports, and role assignments safely.
  3. Once validated, repeat the setup in Production, creating the same External Client App there. Each org will generate its own Consumer Key and Secret, which must be entered into BoogieBoard for that environment. </aside>
