Role Groups are a powerful BoogieBoard feature that allows you to group multiple roles together for the purpose of account distribution — treating them as interchangeable within a defined territory model.
This is particularly useful in orgs with tiered roles, where multiple job levels (e.g., Jr AE, AE, Sr AE) are expected to share the same pool of accounts.
By default, BoogieBoard distributes accounts separately to each Territory Owner Role Type. That means if you have two territory owner roles (e.g., AE and BDR), BoogieBoard will distribute the same account list twice — once to each role type independently.
With Role Groups, you can group multiple roles into a single distribution container. The linked roles will receive one combined distribution, and BoogieBoard will intelligently assign accounts across all roles in the link based on rules and balancing logic.
Imagine your org has:
You want these three to share a single pool of accounts — maybe weighted by experience level, maybe evenly. Instead of distributing accounts to each role separately, you group the roles and let BoogieBoard treat them as one unit.
Ungrouped Roles:
- AE → Accounts 1–10
- Sr AE → Accounts 1–10 (duplicated!)
- Jr AE → Accounts 1–10 (duplicated!)
Grouped Roles:
- Shared pool → Accounts 1–10
↳ Assigned across Jr AE, AE, Sr AE together
Now, each account is assigned once, and BoogieBoard decides which user — from any of the grouped roles — should own it.
Role Linking is configured in your Scenario Designer, typically by selecting multiple roles and grouping them as part of a distribution cluster.
