Roles are the foundation of the territory design process in BoogieBoard. This section explains how roles define ownership, collaboration, and visibility across your territory model, from Account Executives and Sales Managers to Support Reps and cross-functional partners.
In BoogieBoard, roles aren’t just labels. They drive who owns which territories, how accounts are grouped, and how assignment logic is applied. They also determine what gets pushed back into Salesforce or your CRM during export.
This section will walk you through how to create, manage, and use roles effectively in your scenario planning. You’ll learn how to define role types, assign ownership, link roles to accounts or nodes, and configure CRM identifiers to ensure accurate syncing.
Whether you’re modeling a brand new sales structure or adapting an existing one, mastering roles ensures your plan reflects how your teams actually sell and collaborate.
Roles are the foundation of territory design and team modeling in BoogieBoard. Defining and managing your roles correctly enables powerful features that go far beyond simply labeling a user.
Territory Owners are the core inputs to BoogieBoard’s territory generation engine. Each Territory Owner assigned within a node results in a distinct territory being created. The number and configuration of these roles directly control how accounts are grouped, distributed, and balanced.
Roles enable balancing goals to be applied consistently across your team. By grouping similar roles (e.g., all AEs in a segment), you can ensure that territories are distributed fairly based on custom metrics like revenue, account count, or potential.
Not all teams have flat structures. Some include tiers (like Jr AE, AE, and Sr AE) that may share the same accounts or split them differently. BoogieBoard supports Role Linking, allowing multiple role types to participate in the same territory balancing group. This ensures each account is only distributed once across a collective set of roles, even if those roles vary by seniority, title, quota, or capacity.
Roles also influence how quotas are tracked and how performance is measured. BoogieBoard supports both top-down and bottom-up quota logic:
Roles allow this quota distribution to be cleanly mapped and visualized in territory scenarios.
